2023 RESULTS AND OUTGOING CHAIR’S MESSAGE

Chair’s Message

Another year done, and the 10 years with myself and committee in tenure. For those that were not at this years Challenge, it was our last, we all wish Mark Coupar from Cambridgeshire FRS the very best of success as the new chair. Mark was busy at this years event recruiting new members for his committee. I know that with the plans Mark has, the Challenge is safe for another 10 years.

Looking back at this years Challenge, we may not have had the weather we would have liked, with showers coming through on the first and second day with some strong gusts and strong steady breezes, in contrast to the third day and the passage race home, it possibly was the right decision for those that decided not to take part. Having a late start due to little wind but a strong tide, The race was ended short after just one leg, with the breeze dying totally, and so it ended with Nick Burchall’s  Hampshire Phoenix taking honours in the Spinnaker Class and  James Cornall  LAS 5 taking the White Sails trophy, no Asymmetric boats took part . These trophies will be awarded as soon as we can, this may be at the beginning of next years event.

Results for the 1st 2 days can be seen on the website

As said on the closing night, I and the outgoing committee would like to thank everyone who has taken part over the years, all of our sponsors who have been exceptional, without your support the Challenge would not be where we are now and all of the help and assistance of the Yacht Charterers Terry Hunt at Sunsail and more recently Charlie Williams at Fairview . The welcoming we have had at our various ports of call over the years , a big thank you to each and everyone of you. Also to our Race Officers, the most part Jon and Karen at Sunsail and this year the team from Cowes Corinthian, we thank you!

Many Thanks also to this years guest speaker Captain. Emma Tiller from MAIB, a really interesting account of the work investigators carry out, for lessons to be learnt . Over the years, we have a had some fantastic speakers from Simon Weston to Dee Caffari and Tom Cunliffe. Many Thanks to you all fro making our Gala night special.

The Photographs and Film footage will be put on our website shortly for downloading via Google pictures. IF you have any footage that you have taken from this years Challenge then send it in and we will post. See the footage from the winning Spinnaker team for this year, Steve Doherty’s SECAMB’s entry, superb editing.
