Picture the scene....
You are about to step off the kerb when you instinctively look to your right. What you see stops you dead in your tracks. There, coming straight for you, is the familiar sight of a bright red fire engine blue lights alternately flashing and head lights ablaze. You look to the other side of the road and decide to stay put.
As the sirens get louder you realise that there is more than one fire engine coming your way. Straining your eyes to focus you see two vehicles side by side with more behind. As you stare in disbelief you come to realise that there are twenty or more all battling to make it to the front. The first three fly past you almost line abreast, only to be followed by two more very close behind. A small gap later and four more are bearing down on you. Looking the other way the first batch is trying to turn left into the High Street. It’s chaos as they each scrabble for position. It’s clear that one of them is going to have to back-off but none of the three charioteers are prepared to concede. Before you know it they’re round the corner and out of sight but are simply replaced by the chasing pack ……….. unreal? Yes without a doubt. However firefighters have an affinity for water as much as fire……...replace the fire engines with 37 foot sailing yachts and the RACE IS ON! More........
