M.J.QUINN UKFSC 2012 Win For West Yorkshire

Peter Crowther and his crew came out on top after a tough competition with 25 other yachts to win the M.J.Quinn UK Firefighters Sailing Challenge 2012.  With the strongest wind strengths prevailing in the Solent since the event began in 2004, Peter demonstrated that he had the skills to get the best from his yacht and crew in the worst of conditions. It was a close run though as last years winner Mick Stead, from Hampshire, was just one point behind.  A blow by blow report of the event can be found by following this link.  if you wish to see individual results of each race, the class results or the white sail results then simply click the required link.

The Cowes Yacht Haven again provided excellent facilities for crews and hosted two superb Gala evenings in its Event Centre.  Manager Ian Gregory and his staff are highly commended for ensuring that our visiting crews had a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable time.  Christie Harrison and Hampshire based band The Kicks provided the entertainment.

The M.J.QUINN UK Firefighters Sailing Challenge 2013 will commence on the 22nd April 2013 under the control of its new London Fire Brigade based organising committee.  Led by regular UKFSC competitor Mick Norman you'll get an opportunity to meet the new committee members over the next few months.  In the meantime if you want to register an early interest in participating why not click here to send Mick a note.

Donation to RNLI accepted by Shirley Robertson OBE

As part of UKFSC 2012 Shirley Robertson OBE accepted a cheque for £5,000 raised during the 2011 event towards the new RNLI station in Cowes. Shirley made the history books by becoming the first British woman to win two Olympic Gold Medals at consecutive games, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 and we are immensely pleased that she represented the RNLI on this occasion.  The UKFSC organising committee took the opportunity whilst in Cowes to visit the site of the new station to see the work in progress.
