27th November 2008 - Nick Ward, the last survivor to be rescued from the ill-fated 1979 Fastnet race and author of the award winning book 'Left for Dead', has agreed to be our after dinner speaker at the gala evening on the 28th April 2009. View details of Nick's Fastnet experiences at this link.

26th November 2008 - Number of entrants for UKFSC 2009 now stands at 28!  If you've not yet registered your interest by completing and returning the application form you better hurry up if you're not to be disappointed.

17th November 2008 - The number of entrants for UKFSC 2009, from expressions of interest, is currently in excess of 20, with new enquiries being received daily.  If you've not yet registered your interest by completing and returning the application form you better hurry up if you're not to be disappointed.

11th November 2008 - We may be on the brink of a recession but the UK Firefighters Sailing Challenge has the support of over 20 businesses and organisations for the 2009 event.  Go to 'UKFSC Supporters' to see who we're attracted attention from.

14th October 2008 - Early indications from West Yorkshire, who were extremely competitive in last years event, is that they are looking to enter up to five crews for 2009.  Given that West Yorkshire raised over £6,000 for local charities before they ever even arrived at UKFSC 2008, we wish them every success in attracting the extra competitors.

9th October 2008 - Eddie Winter reports that letters have been sent to every fire brigade, police force and ambulance service in the UK, inviting them to submit teams for UKFSC 2009.  It is envisaged that as a result of this we shall see an increase in the number of competing crews for UKFSC 2009 and that these crews will representative of an even larger geographical and professional spectrum of the UK's emergency services.

7th October 2008 - Telent Communications, who work closely with brigades throughout the country as part of the Firelink and FiReControl projects have again agreed to support the UK Firefighters Sailing Challenge by providing Gold level sponsorship for the 2009 event.  I'm sure I'm joined by all competitors in thanking them for generosity in these difficult times and for their continued support.

12th September 2008 - Mick Stead - Chair of the UKFSC committee attended the Southampton International Boat Show where he and Shaun Coote, presented cheques to the value of £2,000 to both Debbie Gregory, attending on behalf of The Fire Fighters Charity, and Dame Ellen MacArthur, representing her own charity The Ellen MacArthur Trust.  This presentation event was the culmination of all of the lot of hard work that went into organising and running UKFSC 2008. 20th May 2008 - All photo's of the 2008 UKFSC event have now been uploaded into Picasa.  To view or download them follow this link or access the 'Multimedia Archive' via the 'Contestants Resources' menu.

12th May 2008 - After a short break work is going well on sorting and categorising the photographs that Vic and Boyd took of the event.  I need to warn you though that in all there are 2,700 plus photo's compared to 1,900 last year.  Please be patient and I let you know just as soon as they have been uploaded for website access.

1st May 2008 - The closing ceremony for the UKFSC 2008 at Port Solent saw trophies awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places; the first non fire service yacht; the first 'white' sail yacht and a cup for the winning sponsors yacht.  A full list of race competitors places can be found under the 'Role of UKFSC' menu in the 'About' section.

30th April 2008 - A brilliant evening was laid on at the Haven Centre and just under £1500 was raised through the raffle and auction which were held to raise funds towards our chosen charities.  All that remains is for us to tally up the overall costs of the event to determine how much more we can add to this figure as an overall event donation.  Watch this space.

30th April 2008 - Congratulations are extended to the Winners of the mid event class trophies were Adrian Murphy (West Sussex 2), John Stannett (Isle of Wight) and Chris Knight (London 3).

30th April 2008 -  West Yorkshire, who entered four boats into the 2008 UKFSC advised the organising committee that they raised over £6,000 for charities local to their area in the run up to the event.  A fantastic achievement for which they are congratulated.
