All Skippers past and future.
The entry system for the 2020 UK Firefighters Sailing Challenge will open at the Emergency Services Show at the NEC on Thursday 19th September. Similar to last year we expect the yachts to be reserved quickly. For next year we are limiting it to 35 entries!! Please note below a change to the entry system .
Many of you will be aware that Sunsail are in the process of changing their fleet, this will take two seasons to complete and so for 2020 they will have 15 of the new Jeanneau 41.0’s and 10 of the old F40’s. Last year we had 15 yachts in Spinnaker Class. Having looked at the new boats on their launch at Sunsail our thoughts are they may not be as racey. So for 2020 we will be booking 15 of the 41.0 for Spinnaker class from Sunsail and 20 of the Oceanis’ 37’s from Fairview for the White Sails Class. We realise this may make logistics awkward for some travelling crews, but we have our hands tied with available fleets and demand.
The new Sunsaill 410 crew a maximum of 10 but sleeps 9. The Fairview Oceanis 37’s crew 8 and sleeps 8.
A major change to the entry system is the UKFSC will take full payment for the event and pay for each yacht from this . We will be very strict on deposits,(non refundable) and on deadlines for final payment . Once again we have had a lot of interest from various teams and so it will be on a first come first served basis. Priority to the 410 Spinnaker class will be given to 2019 Spinnaker entries. It is not expected at this time that we will be chartering the older F40 Yachts from Sunsail. This decision has been made to keep the racing as fair as possible. Once all of the new Sunsail fleet has been replaced this will be reviewed for future years.
The costs for 2020 are
Sunsail 410 Spinnaker Class Monday 11th May 1700hrs to Thursday 14th May 1700hrs plus £1342.00

As in past years we ask that teams of 8, 6 crew are linked to the emergency services and teams of 9 or 10 that 7 are. This does not apply to Sponsor boats. We also request that in the interest of fairness you comply with ISAF Racing Rule 3.
An initial non refundable deposit of £500 secures your yacht and team entry. 50% of the payment is required by 31st January, with final payment being made by 31st March 2020.
Payment is made by the online entry system . www.ukfsc.org.uk/entries Once you have logged in initially you can return to your log-in and add your Shirt Sizes, Dietary requirements and Christmas Presents. You will not be able to book your boat direct with Sunsail or Fairview. Once registered and deposit paid, the yacht charterer will contact you for your qualifications and crew list.
The opening night this year will be held at Portsmouth Historic Naval Dockyard, Yachts will berth at Gunwharf Marina for Monday 11th May. This means Fairview yachts will have less distance to travel from the Hamble Base and the Sunsail fleet, all of which last year bar one were on the practice day, will have less distance to travel back from their practice and all yachts will be on the start line sooner on Tuesday, hopefully allowing more races on Tuesday, weather permitting.
As in past years, team entry includes, all berthing fees in Gunwharf and Cowes Marinas. Food at the Opening Night, after Racing Social 1700 – 2100 (including drink ) on Tuesday and Wednesday’s Gala Dinner both in Cowes. Skippers packs will sent out during March with all event details . Keep an eye on the website for updates as they happen.
