Important Announcement For UKFSC 2019!!

You would all have seen the initial event notification of our 2019 Challenge in September and that it clearly stated that we believed yachts needed to be booked early to avoid disappointment. The entry system was opened at the Emergency Services Show on September 22nd and during that day we received 3 entries. The entries have continued coming in steadily and for the first time in the Challenge’s history all 27 of Sunsails F40’s have now been booked!! all before the end of November.

So, we do not want to disappoint some of our regular attendees, although at the same time not have such a big fleet that the event becomes numbers rather than names. So following some lengthy discussions and after our committee meeting this week we have a plan.

We have been in touch with Fairview Sailing, they are based in Hamble and have set aside 8 Beneteau Oceanis 37’s for our use. These are 8 berth yachts and have asymmetric spinnakers, race premium spec, so a little easier if you want to fly one.including wet weather gear. Fairview will charge £1576 inc vat. this is from Monday 13th 1000 until Friday 17th 1200.

So this works out roughly the same as Sunsail with the Monday as a training day bringing the boat round to Port Solent and! you have Friday if you want to go back to Hamble , or you can about turn after Thursdays race and be back in the Hamble by 6pm. The UKFSC will take care of your moorings at Port Solent on Monday evening. There may be opportunities that a team has booked an F40 but feels they would be happier on a 37. Let us know.

We have discussed with The Race Committee and they can run the races so that all yachts will qualify for the trophies available on an equal points system. This will be fully explained at the Skippers briefing and within the skippers booklet that will be sent out. They have raced with this mixed fleet in the past.

We are mindful of an additional size fleet and the risks associated with this, also for catering and logistical reasons at our venues during the week and so why we are limiting numbers to 35,

To reserve your yacht, contact Fairview telling them you are on our event:

I intend discussing the situation further at the Skippers brief with next and future years in mind and get the views of others.

Your team entry to the event remains the same at £880 including £80 for your raffle tickets. Additional crew members will be at £55 plus £10 for raffle tickets.

To enter a team log on to and use the online entry system. Once a team has entered you will be able to return to your entry to add information. A deposit of £300 is required at the time of entry, with full payment required by 1st March. Crew shirt sizes will be required as soon as possible this is done through the online system.

The situation is not perfect; however we are victims of the Challenges’ success and so we are doing all we can to make the Challenge better for years to come.

If you decide not to partake this year then it would be a shame. We do not want to lose any competitors.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Competitors, Support Staff and their Families a very Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year.

Mick Norman and all the committee .
